Fishing holidays in the UK: Enjoy the Great Outdoors

The UK has a large variety of both freshwater and salt water fishing environments; from lakes, rivers and the coastline.

Here,  professionals and beginners can enjoy fishing alike. Head to Whitby, a seaside town in Yorkshire which has plenty of fishing opportunities. Here, you can fish on Whitby's West Pier, on the beach or on a chartered boat. Depending on the time of year, fish that can be caught include codling, billet, mackerel and whiting. Cod in particular are popular at Whitby – especially from the pier and in winter.  If you are looking for something a little different, Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire  – the impressive home of the Dukes of Marlborough - also plays host to keen anglers, all whilst in the foreground of the picturesque palace grounds. The lake on the grounds is renowned for its coarse fishing during summer and predator fishing during the winter. Ensure to check the opening dates prior to visiting- fishing is usually possible here between June and March.  Lake District fishing holidays are also a popular choice. As one of the most beautiful and peaceful destinations in England, the Lakes not only offer countless lakes, waterways and rivers, but plenty of outdoor opportunities to explore the area further. The great benefit of fishing is that it is almost always in a peaceful area, surrounding you with nature and extraordinary landscapes.

Other popular fishing hotspots in the UK include the beautiful Loch Venachar in Scotland- about an hour and a half from Glasgow -  and Lyn Y Gors – a site comprising of several lakes in the picturesque area of Anglesey, Wales.  Before you travel to your chosen destination, check the regulations for fishing permits, as many sites vary.
