Wengen holiday homes: experience the great Swiss outdoors
Wengen, located in the Bernese Highlands of Switzerland, is one of the five resorts within the Jungfrau region and was originally an alpine farming community, before developing into an ideal skiing-destination. Unlike many other ski-resorts in Europe, this town is a car-free resort and therefore offers a peaceful atmosphere, whilst also helping to protect the surrounding environment. You can however, still reach your Wengen holiday rental despite the lack of vehicles - the area is accessible directly from Lauterbrunnen or Grindelwald by train.
After the first ski-races were held in 1920, the area developed into providing the ideal space for winter guests with over 250km of piste. The international Lauberhorn races are held in Wengen annually – usually in January – and include a downhill run and slalom. Apart from skiing and snowboarding in Wengen, the area also offers snow parks, winter hiking, tobogganing, cross-country skiing and even curling. If you feel like relaxing after a long day on the slopes, pay a visit to one of the wellness spas to relax and rejuvenate before heading back to your Wengen accommodation. Enjoy the local restaurants and try the Swiss specialities; perhaps try Rösti or a cheese fondue. If you still have energy after a day on the slopes, Wengen has bars and clubs to continue to the fun into the night.
Holiday accommodation in Wengen: whatever the weather
Wengen is not only a great destination during the winter season. Summer offers the lush green Swiss landscape with plenty of activities to enjoy it. Hike mountain trails and find the numerous picturesque lakes and waterfalls, go mountain biking, climbing, swimming in the outdoor pools or play golf. Perhaps use your Wengen holiday apartment as a base to further explore the Lauterbrunnen area – visit the top of the Schiltorn with the highest revolving restaurant in the world.
