We only drove from the airport to the harbour. However, you could already see there that it is a super beautiful island. The sea was bright blue. The beaches we were able to discover all looked very well-kept. There were lots of boats out at sea that you could hire. There were nice little shops in the harbour itself, with super friendly locals. We were there for a total of 2 days (arrival and departure day). We would definitely have liked to have seen more of the island. Great weather in December (around 20 degrees). Overall, thumbs up.
Highligts
We travelled from Gran Canaria on the AIDAcosma. We were only able to explore the area around the harbour. We were struck by the beautiful beaches and the small boats in the sea that you could hire there.
Hidden gems
Small shops on the beach or go whale and dolphin watching by catamaran
Destination recommendation
A great destination in winter to escape the cold weather.
Pros
Super weather
Friendly people
Cons
To explore the whole island, a hire car would make sense

A holiday that we will probably repeat due to the weather conditions. The children will remember it fondly, especially because of the camel rides and the aquarium. A cabriolet ride provides variety and is also a good way to explore the other beaches.
Highligts
We took a great convertible drive along the coast with the children and that was definitely our highlight! The second highlight was the camel ride in the dunes. The sandy beach was also a dream and the water was just great.
Hidden gems
There is a large, new saltwater aquarium! It has the largest saltwater pool in the world and is well worth seeing!
Destination recommendation
The weather is very nice even in winter, you don't sweat, it's not too hot but warm and it's great for swimming!
Pros
Weather
Sandy beach
Cons
Very many pensioners
Hotels are not directly on the beach, you usually have to take a shuttle

We travelled to Gran Canaria at the end of July, beginning of August. We travelled to Maspalomas in the south of the island. The place is known for its beautiful weather, beaches and dunes. We went to Las Palmas, which is a lovely city to explore, and to Playa del Ingles beach, where you can eat very well at the Tipsy Hammock bar and enjoy the sea.

Our four-day trip to Gran Canaria in November was an unforgettable adventure full of diverse experiences. The decision to explore the island in a hire car proved to be a stroke of luck, as it gave us the freedom to discover the breathtaking nature and cultural treasures at our own pace.
The first highlight of our trip was a visit to the nature park, where fascinating flora and fauna awaited us. The hire car tour allowed us to explore charming villages and impressive coastlines off the beaten track. The decision to pick up the hire car directly at the airport proved to be particularly wise as it gave us the flexibility to visit remote places and experience the true beauty of the island.
A culinary highlight was a visit to a local restaurant that showcased authentic Canarian cuisine at its best. The island offers a wide range of restaurants that are characterised by their quality and variety, as we were able to find out from Google reviews before the trip.
The sun-drenched days in Maspalomas and Canjuing left lasting impressions. The endless beaches and dunes of Maspalomas invited us to relax, while Canjuing delighted us with its picturesque stretches of coastline. The diving adventure off the coast was another highlight that brought us closer to the colourful underwater world.
The waterfalls in the centre of the island held a special place in our hearts. Their majestic sight and the refreshing water provided a welcome change from the coastal landscapes.
For future trips, we recommend choosing a hotel in the quieter southern region instead of staying in the capital Las Palmas. This choice promises a more relaxed atmosphere and easier access to the beautiful sand dunes of Maspalomas and the impressive waterfalls in the centre of the island.
Gran Canaria completely impressed us with its variety of activities, ease of transport and culinary delights. This trip is highly recommended not only for couples of all ages, but also for families, as the island has something for everyone.

A valuable insider tip for Gran Canaria is to pick up your hire car directly at the airport - this decision gives you the freedom to explore the island individually. It is also advisable to plan trips outside of the holiday periods in order to enjoy the sights in a relaxed atmosphere without excessive crowds.

I travelled to Gran Canaria with my girlfriend at the end of July/beginning of August. Our accommodation was in Maspalomas, in the south of the island. The weather is much better in the south than in the north of the island. Maspalomas is known for its beautiful beaches and dunes. We took a day trip to Las Palmas. There we went to Playa de Ingles beach and ate at the Tipsy Hammock restaurant with a sea view.

Enjoy your holiday in the Canary Islands with Gran Canaria villas
Views of seemingly endless silky sand dunes roll across the island like waves frozen in time, spilling off into the frothy blue of the beautiful Atlantic Ocean. Bizarre geological structures crop up from the volcanic hilltop; sparkling emerald mountains jut up and perch upon mini-peninsulas. Apart from natural splendour, it is a prime beach destination attracting holidaymakers from all over Europe and across the globe to stay in villas in Gran Canaria by the sea, in one of the hottest party destinations west of Ibiza.
Get active on Gran Canaria's volcanic landscape
There are plenty of things to get stuck into with the whole family while staying in a villa or holiday home here. Start the day out on Las Cantaras, relaxing idly on the soft, golden sand. Pick up a game of beach volleyball or tennis, or jump in and swim or surf in the delightfully refreshing Atlantic waters. If you're looking to explore the stunning landscape during your stay in Gran Canaria apartments, then visit Roque Nublo, a volcanic rock which has become an iconic feature of the island. The rock's name literally translates as “Cloud Rock” due to the fact it often disappears into the mist of the Gran Canarian sky. The area isn't particularly restricted; you could even dare climb the rock if you so wished, so long as you have the appropriate climbing gear. The Maspalomas Sand Dunes are another natural reserve worth seeing, though be well aware that this is also a very popular spot for nude sun bathing.
Discover the nightlife on Gran Canaria
After dark head to Playa Las Cantaras, which comes to life with its techno and dancing, with after-hours extending to midday the next day. Recover from the party in comfortable private Gran Canaria apartments, just to start again the next evening. Another great destination for tourists looking for a vibrant nightlife is Playa Del Inglés, the most popular resort on the island - though don't expect this tourist hotspot to be as anglicised as other Spanish islands such as Tenerife. With easy access to the beaches of Maspalomnas, this region of Gran Canaria is the perfect location for your holiday rental property. Provided you’re in a satisfactory condition the next day, take advantage of the bright daylight hours to explore this island's exquisite treasures, which include historical attractions, secluded beaches, and amazing geological formations.
What to eat in Gran Canaria?
Enjoy a vacation in your holiday apartment in Gran Canaria and discover the charms of its cuisine. There are a variety of restaurants and tascas where you can taste Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Turkish, etc.. But to get to know the authentic Canarian cuisine, go to a bochinche (family place where they serve typical food) to taste a plate of garbanzas, goat meat, a sancocho or goat cheese.
Go to the restaurant El Centro in Guayadeque, where you will taste Canarian dishes in the middle of nature, in a unique environment. One of the attractions of this establishment is that it is a cave carved into the rock and most of the furniture of the premises is made of stone.
