The city was very interesting to visit as it is so diverse. On the one hand, it has a river that runs through it, on which you can take boat trips. There is also a spectacular bridge overlooking the city. The city has a lot to offer in terms of cuisine, with many delicious cafés and restaurants such as Chama, which I have personally visited and have nothing but positive things to say about. The city is easy to get around on foot. But if you don't want to, you can hire e-scooters or take the metro

Highligts

We had a look round the city and went out to eat

Hidden gems

The station is architecturally very interesting

We were in Porto in January. The flight time from Berlin to Porto was 3 hours and the flight took place in the evening, so we had a full weekend in the north of Portugal. We visited many of the city's historical museums. We recommend public transport and a day or week pass. Don't forget an umbrella, as January is actually the rainy season. However, we were lucky with sunshine and a pleasant 15 degrees Celsius.

Highligts

We really liked the beautiful old town. The weather was pleasant at the end of January in the north of Portugal, sunny and 15 degrees Celsius. Lots of nice restaurants in Porto. The favourable prices on site convinced us.

Hidden gems

A day pass or weekly ticket for the metro is recommended. Check in at the airport in good time.

Destination recommendation

The short flight times from Germany.

Pros

Price-performance ratio

Weather

Cons

Soiled paths

Old aeroplanes

We went on a cruise and Porto was one of the destinations. As we only had one day, we opted for an e-bike tour, which was absolutely the right decision! The city has lots of parks, everything is beautifully green! The first place we visited was the Livraria Lello, where J. K. Rowling got her idea for Harry Potter. But beware: bring time, because you have to queue for a long time and there is an entrance fee (tip: you get the entrance fee offset when you buy a book). Then we continued to the waterfront, around Ponte Dom Luis I. Here you have to be lucky to get a free seat at the dozens of restaurants, but it's worth it, even if it is very expensive (tip: there's a McDonalds above, it's quicker 😄). From here you have a great view of the 385 metre long arched bridge. So sit down and enjoy a glass of wine!

Highligts

The highlight of the trip was definitely not the bookshop 'Livraria Lello' (where the idea for Harry Potter was born). And the Pasteis de Nata pastry.

Hidden gems

You have to try a Pasteis de Nata!

Destination recommendation

Because Porto is one of the most beautiful cities I've ever been to!

Pros

Green city

There are little things to discover everywhere

I was in Porto in December, which is perhaps not the ideal time to go there. What's more, it rained cats and dogs during my entire stay. And then, unfortunately, the city is no fun at all. Nevertheless, I was able to discover some nice sights: the famous ceramics, for example, or a cable car ride from the lower city to the upper city. The city centre is compact and easy to walk around, bus and train are not absolutely necessary to get around. You should also try the Portuguese patisserie specialities!

Highligts

The ceramics are of course beautiful, e.g. at Porto São Bento railway station.

Hidden gems

My "insider tip" would be to go off the beaten track. There's a lot to discover here too, even if it's not in any travel guide.

Destination recommendation

I would recommend this destination to anyone who would like to spend a holiday in a city by the sea with historical flair and is not too bothered by crowds of tourists

Pros

Relatively compact city centre

Cons

Hard to bear in the rain

Touristically hyped and overcrowded

In my opinion, the whole trip was a dream. My favourite part was definitely the day trip to the Douro River. The food in Porto is also very good and highly recommended. I went to the Barrica by YoursPorto restaurant and ate the best fish of my life there. The public transport is very well organised and really easy to use. On my next trip, I would book earlier and definitely stay longer. For me personally, Valencia was the most beautiful city I've been to so far.

Highligts

A great experience was the Estadio do Drago, which is an absolute highlight for any football fan. Another excellent experience was the day trip to the Douro. For me personally, this was the absolute highlight of my trip to Porto.

Hidden gems

A great insider tip is the Barrica by YoursPorto restaurant. This restaurant was super nice and really very good to eat at.

Destination recommendation

It's a great city that has just about everything to offer. There is something interesting for everyone.

Pros

Warm climate

Friendly locals

Cons

Very warm in summer

Your lovely Porto travel: Holiday villa Porto & Porto apartments

However you choose to spend your time in this fabulous city, a stay in one of our Porto apartments or a villa Porto will serve as the perfect base, offering luxury, comfort and above all great locations. Whichever district you settle upon, we're certain that you'll fall in love with this Southern European city. When it was designated European Capital of Culture status in 2001, the city underwent a cultural revolution. Already boasting a deep history and grand architectural designs, the town-planners of Porto decided to look to the future, creating interesting buildings, monuments and exhibitions which would contrast and complement the existing structures in this harbour city. More than a decade later, the modernist buildings have lost none of their contemporary edge and are well worth a visit during your Porto travel.

Porto accommodation - villa Porto & apartment Porto

Angelo de Sousa's inimitable minimalist sculpture located on the Avenida da Boavista adds a much welcomed splash of colour to an otherwise drab and indistinguishable business park. Other contemporary must-see creations include the cutting edge Casa da Musica. Comissioned off the back of Porto's Culture Capital status, it was completed in 2005 to much acclaim within the architectural community. Not without good reason is it considered to be one of the most important concert halls of our times. A must see in your villa Porto holidays. Take a journey back in time to appreciate where it all began. The classically inspired architecture around the Avenida dos Aliados or which adorns the iconic Majestic Cafe harks back to Porto's golden era, when the region gained its important status through trade and through the gigantic port that gave the sea-faring city its name and its reputation. Also known as the city of bridges, you'll get a great view of Porto's old town and its diverse Baroque, Neoclassic and Romantic architecture from the impressive bridges which span the Douro River. If heights aren't your thing, then enjoy the vista from your Porto apartment balcony.

Porto travel - lovely Porto villas & Porto apartments

Surrounded by the city's oldest houses, you'll find yourselves but a stones throw from the best sights Porto has to offer.
