Rabat riads and holiday apartments
Morocco's capital city Rabat may not have the touristic draw of Marrakech or Essaouira, so while your Rabat holiday rental or Rabat riad means you are right in the middle of the action, it is a little less overwhelming, and exploring the medina, or maze-like ancient marketplace, is often a more relaxing experience. Haggle for some locally produced goods, or crafts, or even for some local food to take back to your riad Rabat and try your hand at Moroccan cooking. You can even get cooking lessons in the city!
When in Rabat, you must visit Chellah, the ruins of the ancient Roman city of Sala Colona, later used as a necropolis. You can see the old temple, forum, parts of their water distribution system, as well as Islamic ruins. The oldest part of Rabat, the Kasbah les Oudaias, along with the neighbouring Andalusian Gardens, is a lovely place to explore, like stepping back in time, and offers some great views over the city. In the north east of the city you will find the elaborately decorated Mohamed V Mausoleum and Hassan Tower, with guards on horseback at the entrance.
With the freedom that a holiday apartment Rabat affords you, why not take a day trip to nearby cities Salé or Temara? It's only an hour by car to Casablanca, a city we highly recommend.
