Noto apartments and villas
Noto is a city of around 25,000 people, near Syracuse in eastern Sicily. It has almost two thousand years of history, but after it was destroyed by an earthquake in 1693, it was rebuilt in flamboyant Sicilian Baroque style on a new site closer to the sea. It has since been added to UNESCO's list of World Heritage sites. Get closer to the city by choosing Noto apartments for your accommodation.
As in many Italian cities, Noto is home to many beautiful churches, such as the Basilica of San Nicolo, and the church of San Carlo al Corso. Climb the bell tower of the church of Santa Clara for the best views across the city. In addition to the churches, the Palazzo Ducezio, the Teatro Tina Di Lorenzo, and the city gate, or Porta Reale, are all worth visiting. The best way to explore the compact city centre is on foot, or on a bicycle.
Noto's calendar is full of events and festivals, from the Settimana Santa easter celebrations to the Infiorata flower festival in May. Booking a villa Noto during one of their festivals is another way to ensure a fun and unique holiday. When on Sicily, one should also sample plenty of local food; influenced by the Arabs, Turks, and Jews, you'll find strongly flavoured ingredients such as olives, sardines, capers, pine nuts, tuna, and raisins, as well as a great selection of sweets, pastries and cakes. Foodie travellers should also look at holiday rentals in Modena, Parma, or Bologna, in Emilia-Romagna, the gastronomic heart and soul of Italy.
