Start by gazing at the arched loggia of the 17th-century Palazzo Ciaccio, a then wander down the ancient paved path also known as La Chiusa, which leads you into the heart of the olive belt. The entirety of the Cilento is actually now a protected nature reserve. The old town sits on a hill just behind the seaside. A 20-minute walk from the town brings you down to the Marina di Pisciotta, and to the edge of the busy fishing port, and fishing is still an important pass time here. Although the town is popular with tourists, it is not nearly as touristy as the nearby Amalfi Coast. It is easy to avoid the crowds, which mostly gather in the streets at night after dinner time.
The village has preserved intact the medieval urban plan. The Church of St Peter and Paul dates back to the XVI century. There is also famous art work here, particularly noteworthy is of St Francis which was saved from the fire set to the convent by the Turkish. Pisciotta is also quite close to the archaeological site of Paestum as well as the main tourist attraction along the Cilento Coast. There are numerous train to Pisciotta from Salerno. The nearest big city is Naples (2 hrs 35 mins away).
