This rugged and striking coastline is home to some of Italy's most appealing places. Often referred to as the 'Divine Coast', Italy's Amalfi coast is located in the Province of Salerno, on Italy's south-western coast. The landscape of this area is composed of mountains and sea, creating a clash of elements that throws up scenes of outstanding natural beauty. Some of Italy's most vibrant and interesting towns lie amongst the rugged bays of this beautiful coastline. Visitors who stay in Amalfi Coast villas on their Amalfi Coast holidays can't fail to notice how much there is to see and do in the area. As well as charming towns and villages, there are many coves, bays and lemon groves to simply sit and admire. Cetara is one village that foodies should visit, as it enjoys a great reputation for its fish produce, including excellent anchovy sauce.
Any visitors to Sorrento accommodation or Amalfi Coast accommodation itself will be struck by the superb views of the bay of Naples. One way in particular to explore and appreciate the superb views on offer is to travel along the Amalfi Drive from Sorrento to Amalfi. This narrow strip of road traverses the clifftops between the town and is famous the world over and a real treat for romantics. Guests at our Sorrento apartments should also make sure to try some of the local food and drink, which, as you might expect for an Italian town, is excellent. Sorrento is famous in particular for the production of a liqeuer known as Limoncello, made from lemon rinds. Don't miss this one out on your Sorrento holidays. Other good local produce includes wine, nuts and delicious olive oil. Another feature of Italian life here is the frequent occurrence of festivals. Any visitors to villas in Sorrento arriving at Easter time should make sure to catch at least one of the two striking local Catholic festivals which take place on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. Featuring processions by robed locals and a beautiful woman playing the role of the Madonna, it is a moving and intense experience you'll never forget of your Sorrento holidays.
Other beautiful places to see in your Sorrento holidays:
Characterised by typical Italian Catholicism, holiday-goers enjoying Amalfi coast holidays in our Amalfi Coast villas would be mad to give the Cathedral at Amalfi a miss. This particularly remarkable religous monument consists of parts which date as far back as the ninth century, and much of the rest is medieval. According to ancient documents, there may actually have been a cathedral here as early as the sixth century. Put it on your to-do list right away! Visitors to Amalfi Coast villas will find the essence of southern Italy here on this coastline. Great food, weather and a dreamy landscape will mean that one visit may well not be enough.
