We spent a week as a family on Kos, a little away from Kardamena. There's not much there apart from a large complex, but it was perfect for relaxing. The water temperature was still 25 degrees at the end of October and the water was clear thanks to the pebbly beach (but not unpleasant on the feet). We explored the island by hire car. It's easy because you can easily see the most important sights in one or two days. Car hire prices were reasonable (small car just over €50 per day). The island's landscape is characterised by its mountains. There are also some recommended hiking routes. The locals were all super nice and you only had the impression of being ripped off.
Well-organised island that you can easily explore on your own. Due to the short distances, you can get to the airport from almost anywhere quite quickly (approx. 30 minutes). There are great beaches with clear water, but also a hinterland with mountains for hiking.
The remains of the Hippocrates temple are worth a visit, as is the nearby island capital. There are more ancient archaeological excavations.
Autumn holidays (October) were the perfect time for us to travel. Not too hot, but pleasantly warm.
