Karpathos belongs to the Dodekanes island group and is located in the South-Eastern part of the Aegean Sea. Nestled between its bigger and more famous neighbours, Crete and Rhodes, Karpathos is known for its unsurpassed hospitality. On top of that, the island has managed to preserve its own culture. Parts of the island are very rocky, but Karpathos can also boast with some astonishingly beautiful beaches. If you happen to be on the island during the Feast of the Virgin Mary, which is held on the 15th of August in Panagia, you will be able to see locals in traditional costumes, see them dance and play some of the traditional instruments like lyre or tsambouna. Visit, for example, Pigadia, the main port and capital city of Karpathos. Here you can stroll along the harbour, visit the Agii Apostoli church or the Archeological Museum. Alternatively visit Paleochora, a very picturesque little town with plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants. Karpathos has some stunningly beautiful beaches, so maybe stay in one of the holiday homes Karpathos can offer close to Lefkos beach, Apella beach or Kirapanagia beach.
