A trip to Mainz is great all year round
Whether you plan to book your Mainz accommodation during the summer or during the winter, you are bound to have a great time in this vibrant German city. If you visit during the summer, why not sit down and have a picnic next to the river Rhine, which runs throughout the city here and also the nearby city of Wiesbaden. Take a cycle tour round the city and explore some of the most famous cultural hotspots, such as the Mainz Cathedral with its phenomenal architecture. For those who enjoy museums, the Gutenberg Museum is well worth a visit and is opposite the Cathedral. One of the oldest printing museums in the world, the Gutenberg Museum began after a collection of donated apparatus, books and machines were given from manufacturers and publishers.
If you are planning a winter getaway, then make sure you come from late November onwards as this is when the Christmas markets are in town. From a variety of different stalls selling food, such as roasted almonds and Bratwurst, and traditional winter drinks such as mulled wine and warm egg punch, both help you warm up as the temperatures are pretty low in Germany during the winter months. The Christmas markets in Germany are very famous and exceptional, with the cities of Cologne, Dortmund and the region of Nurenberg well known for their larger markets.
