I was in Cologne last June for a concert and had a look round the city at the same time. I was very impressed, the city centre around the cathedral is very beautiful and there are numerous shopping opportunities and restaurants. Public transport is really well organised and you can get from one place to another very quickly. The city centre is very crowded, but that's understandable. The railway station is central and very large.

We visited Cologne for a concert by Kraftklub and then spent two days exploring the city. The Cologne Cathedral and the Domplatte are of course highly recommended. The old town, the Hohenzollern Bridge with its countless love locks. A walk along the Rhine and through the dense old alleyways is of course very nice. You should also plan a visit to the Chocolate Museum, where you can taste chocolate and see how it is made. Cologne is also known as a green city and has many beautiful parks and botanical gardens that invite you to stroll and linger There are plenty of quaint breweries where you can stop off for a Kölsch beer or two. Shopping enthusiasts will also get their money's worth. Definitely worth a visit, even if it's not cheap.

Cologne is a really beautiful city. The flagship is of course Cologne Cathedral, which is a must-see. We also climbed to the top and were able to enjoy a great view. However, it is very strenuous and narrow. Not for the faint-hearted. To stretch our legs, we then went to the brewery right at the foot of the cathedral. Great German cuisine with great beer. There are plenty of parking spaces on every corner, which aren't that expensive either. The city centre is right next to the main train station, so the best way to get there is by train. Our hotel was also very close to the city centre. This means you can explore everything on foot, which gives it a different flair. Unfortunately, there was a high rate of homeless people in the city centre. However, they were all very friendly and not intrusive.
Cologne Cathedral is a must-see. The best thing to do is to go up and enjoy the view. Lots of street artists in the city centre. Great old town and shops for shopping.
The Gaffel brewery at the cathedral. Very tasty food and great beer.
Very nice city, highly recommended.

I was on holiday in Cologne with my girlfriend in December. The Christmas atmosphere there is really eloquent. My personal highlight was visiting Cologne Cathedral. It's already very impressive in pictures. In reality, however, it is much more impressive. Another great place is the Old Town, where there are some nice shops and restaurants. I had a fantastic steak at the OX Royal.
The old town centre offers excellent restaurants. There are also many pretty shops.
I can absolutely recommend Cologne Cathedral. It is an absolute must-see during your stay in Cologne.
I absolutely recommend it.

I had no problems at all getting around Cologne during my stay; public transport is actually very convenient for getting anywhere in Cologne. The highlights of our trip definitely included Cologne Cathedral, which is simply an incredible building, and the Ludwig Museum, which presents an impressive collection of modern art. And of course Cologne's old town with its many pubs and bars, where you have the opportunity to enjoy and savour all the different types of Kölsch. When we went out for a meal, we usually went to the Belgian quarter, because there is a very diverse restaurant scene there and you could get something that you wouldn't normally find on the menu. All in all, I can definitely recommend Cologne as a city trip.
The highlights of course include my visit to Cologne Cathedral, which is simply incredible, and a pub crawl through Cologne's old town.
My secret tip for Cologne is definitely the Belgian quarter, which has many creative cafés and a variety of restaurants.
I would definitely recommend Cologne, for me it is one of the most exciting cities in Germany.

You will not be short of activities, places to see and things to check out whilst staying in one of the Cologne holiday rentals available.
One of the best things about a holiday to Germany is that it is a great experience all year round. If you want to spend summer here in one of the Cologne holiday apartments available, spend it down by the river Rhine with a picnic and soak up the sun whilst admiring the beautiful traditional German village-feel that this city has. Whilst here in the heart of the city, you cannot miss the Cologne Cathedral. One of the worlds most impressive and famous buildings, the Catholic church was built in 1248 and stood the test of time, even after it was attacked during both the First and Second World Wars. The Cathedral attracts thousands of visitors everyday and it is hard not to see why; there is something deeply alluring about the building. The Hohenzollern Bridge is also a fantastic piece of architecture which you can walk along, which crosses the river Rhine, and is extra romantic as you can place heart-shaped padlocks along the gates, fences and the tracks here.
If you find yourself wanting to visit the German Christmas Markets during the winter, then there are plenty of Cologne holiday rentals available then as well. Sample the traditional German cuisine whilst washing it down with the local mulled wine available on offer. The markets and stalls are divine and attract many visitors to the city of Cologne every year, and other German cities such as Bonn, Dortmund, Dresden and Heidelberg.
If you are wanting to see German culture gone wild, come during Cologne Carnival, which is a highlight for those who enjoy fancy dress- large street carnival that takes place in February with over 1.5 million people attending every year. Enjoy the bars and nightclubs, of which there are many scattered all across this electric city. Perfect for those after a good party! Visit the city of Münster to continue the party, as this student city, over an hour away with the train, is a vibrant city with great nightlife. This can also be said of the nearby city of Duisburg so you will be truly spoilt for choice about where else to travel around to!
Cologne also gave its name to Eau de Cologne - visit the House of 4711 to learn about the original, unique and lovely scent. If you're keen on perfume, why not consider a holiday in Grasse, the world capital of fragrance?
Beauty and spa days are very popular amongst tourists and locals alike and there are a wide range of these to choose from, whatever you have on your agenda, make sure you plan it beforehand. There really is lots to see in this wonderful, romantic city. Go on holiday to Cologne for an exciting, but also relaxing city break; it is what you make it!
