Kontanz is a beautiful city located in the Lake Contance. It's location by the lake make the city very nice during summer months. I recommend walking around the old town city centre and visiting the city cathedral. You can also go up the tower of the cathedral and enjoy the amazing views of the city! (Be careful to check the opening and closing times of the tower) I also recommend walking around the city harbour and visiting the Isle of Mainau which is located next to Contance.

My visit to Constance was a wonderful experience. Strolling through the picturesque old town, I felt transported back in time. The imposing Constance Minster impressed me with its architecture. Another highlight was the Sealife Constance, where I discovered the fascinating underwater world of Lake Constance. The outdoor pool was also a great place to cool off in summer. I found relaxation on a walk along the lakeside promenade with its breathtaking view of the lake and the Alps. The "Kervan" snack bar spoilt us with vegan dishes. Constance is unique - a perfect blend of history, nature and modern gastronomy.

Highligts

One highlight was definitely the walk along the promenade with a view of the Alps. The old town with its impressive architecture was also very beautiful. There was even a vegan kebab snack bar. The outdoor pool and Sealife are also highly recommended.

My time in Constance was really amazing! The city on Lake Constance has so much to offer - from historic architecture to relaxed lakeside promenades. One place I found really cool was the old town. These winding alleyways and historic buildings really take you back in time. The Münsterplatz square with the imposing Constance Minster was definitely a highlight. From the top, you have an amazing view over the city and Lake Constance. Then the harbour - totally idyllic! The lakeside promenade on Lake Constance is perfect for a stroll. Boat trips are a must. I took a trip to the flower island of Mainau - such a green paradise! I was really lucky when it came to food. Constance has so many cosy cafés and restaurants. I tried local specialities in a small restaurant right on the lakeshore. The Lake Constance region is famous for its freshly caught fish - incredibly delicious! Getting around Constance was really easy. The city is manageable and many things are within walking distance. That makes exploring really relaxed. There is also good public transport and bikes to hire to explore the surrounding area. What I would perhaps avoid on my next trip are the mega-tourist times. Sure, the sights are popular, but sometimes it was really crowded. It's better to enjoy the city at quieter times.

My trip to Constance was a wonderful experience overall. An absolute highlight was the Seenachtfest (Lake Night Festival), which thrilled with an incredibly spectacular firework display over Lake Constance and created an unforgettable atmosphere. For dinner, I visited the "Konstanzer Wirtshaus" restaurant, where I was able to enjoy delicious regional specialities in a cosy setting. Getting around the city was straightforward, thanks to a well-developed public transport network and many pedestrian-friendly routes. However, on my next visit I would avoid travelling by car, as parking in the city centre was very difficult and time-consuming, especially during the high season.

Highligts

Constance offers numerous leisure activities such as a boat trip on Lake Constance, which offers breathtaking views of the surrounding area. A visit to Sea Life Constance is a particular highlight for families with children, as you can discover fascinating underwater worlds here. Those interested in history can explore the old town and visit sights such as Constance Minster. For nature lovers, there are also wonderful hiking and cycling trails along the lake and through the surrounding forests.

Hidden gems

The Lake Night Festival in Constance is an annual highlight that attracts thousands of visitors with a spectacular fireworks display over Lake Constance. In addition to the fireworks, the festival offers numerous music and cultural events as well as culinary stalls that provide a varied programme.

We live about 1 hour from Lake Constance and occasionally go on trips to the lake. Constance has always been the starting point for our short trips, as there are wonderful sunbathing areas with access to the lake within a short walk. There is a wide range of food on offer and we visit the sushi restaurant in Lago on every trip to Constance. The Lago itself and the nearby Zalando Outlet offer good shopping opportunities.

Highligts

Lake Constance is the most beautiful area in southern Germany and impresses with its beautiful promenades and numerous cafés, restaurants and bars. I personally love the undiscovered little beaches in the southern part of Constance.

Hidden gems

I can recommend the sushi restaurant in the Lago shopping centre as an insider tip. An evening stroll along the lake from Constance is also a unique experience on beautiful summer evenings.

Destination recommendation

Lake Constance has a different charm at every time of year, which everyone who has the opportunity should experience as often as possible.

Pros

Many shopping facilities and restaurants

Beautiful nature

Cons

Relatively expensive as close to Switzerland

Many visitors to bars in the evening in summer

Relax in an alpine idyll on the Swiss-Austrian border with an apartment in Konstanz

Owing to its small size, your villa in Konstanz may be but a stone's throw away from the water and the shops and restaurants in the centre. Between Konstanz and Kreuzlingen (in Eastern Switzerland) is the Old Town and the neighbourhood of Niederburg, the oldest part of the area. Its charming, winding streets are home to wine bars, craft shops, the Zoffingen monastery, and the "Narrengesellschaft Niederburg" - the society of fools, who are a part of the Shrove Tuesday celebrations in Konstanz.

It's all about the lake

Perhaps the main attraction of a holiday apartment in Konstanz is Lake Constance itself. The harbour is a lovely place to relax, and the Strandbar (beach bar) on the lake is the perfect place to spend the afternoons and evenings. The restaurants around the lake also serve plenty of freshly caught fish. Encompassing the lake is a 170 mile long cycle path, the Bodensee-Radweg - combined with the numerous ferries that cross the lake, this is a great way to see some smaller villages and hamlets from your villa in Konstanz. Just north of here is the island of Mainau, easily accessible by a bridge, which is home to a butterfly house and a baroque palace, and just a short ferry ride away is Meersburg, with its imposing old castle, pink iced cake new castle, and Zeppelin museum.
