Relax in an alpine idyll on the Swiss-Austrian border with an apartment in Konstanz
Konstanz is the main town on Lake Constance, the lake on the border between Switzerland, Austria and Germany. The town features classic, storybook alpine timber framed houses and grand public buildings. Owing to its small size, your villa in Konstanz may be but a stone's throw away from the water and the shops and restaurants in the centre. Between Konstanz and Kreuzlingen (in Eastern Switzerland) is the Old Town and the neighbourhood of Niederburg, the oldest part of the area. Its charming, winding streets are home to wine bars, craft shops, the Zoffingen monastery, and the "Narrengesellschaft Niederburg" - the society of fools, who are a part of the Shrove Tuesday celebrations in Konstanz.
It's all about the lake
Perhaps the main attraction of a holiday apartment in Konstanz is Lake Constance itself. The harbour is a lovely place to relax, and the Strandbar (beach bar) on the lake is the perfect place to spend the afternoons and evenings. The restaurants around the lake also serve plenty of freshly caught fish. Encompassing the lake is a 170 mile long cycle path, the Bodensee-Radweg - combined with the numerous ferries that cross the lake, this is a great way to see some smaller villages and hamlets from your villa in Konstanz. Just north of here is the island of Mainau, easily accessible by a bridge, which is home to a butterfly house and a baroque palace, and just a short ferry ride away is Meersburg, with its imposing old castle, pink iced cake new castle, and Zeppelin museum.
