Lot is a beautiful department to discover in the Midi-Pyrenees region in the south west of France. Lot holiday homes are surrounded by the Tarn-et-Garonne and Lot-et-Garonne departments, as well as being close to Hautes-Pyrenees. Named after the Lot river, the department has some magnificent scenery and quaint villages to discover; in fact the villages Carennac, Loubressac and Autoire are classified amongst the 'most beautiful villages of France' and are easy to reach from Lot holiday homes. The Lot department is situated in the northern part of the Causses de Quercy Regional Natural Park and therefore is very similar to its neighbouring department, Dordogne, in the Aquitaine region of France.
In the park and close to holiday rentals Lot, you'll find the second most visited pilgrimage site in France; the village of Rocamadour. The village has seven sanctuaries and many of the buildings are cut into the rocks on the edge of a cliff. Rocamadour is also close by to the most-visited cave system in France, the Gouffre de Padirac which has some spectacular domes and underwater systems and is sure to be a great day out for everyone.
Lot holiday homes are also a great place to come for lovers of hiking and cycling as you can combine sport with natural beauty. The limestone has been carved away by rivers in the park to create magnificent cliffs, gorges and wooded areas which create some dramatic scenery and there are many cycling and marked out trails to enjoy. The trails range from easier trails for if you're on a family holiday in holiday rentals Lot, or for if you fancy longer hikes through the countryside.
