Angers holiday rentals - discover the Loire Valley
Angers, in the Loire Valley, is about 300km south west of Paris, between Nantes and Tours. Easily accessible from London by train and from Nantes by plane, a holiday rental Angers is a great cultural city break solution for those looking to discover one of France's smaller cities. It's also a good place to stay while exploring the Loire Valley; there are so many chateaux to see in the surrounding area, like Saumur and Le Rivau.
One of the most fantastic castles in the region, however, is right on the doorstep of your Angers holiday rental - the Chateau d'Angers. Founded in the 9th century, and later expanded, it has 17 towers and an outer wall that's three metres thick. It used to be a fortress, now it houses a collection of tapestries. The most famous is the Apocalypse Tapestry, an artistic interpretation of the Bible's Book of Revelations, which was produced in the late 14th century and is therefore the oldest surviving French Medieval tapestry.
The historic centre of Angers is small enough to discover on foot, or by bike, and there are plenty of interesting things to see – like the Maison d'Adam, and the Saint-Maurice cathedral – and museums to visit – like the Musée de Beaux-Arts and the Galerie David. Anger holiday rentals are for history, art and culture fans, but also for foodies. The Loire Valley, known as the Garden of France, produces top quality fresh fish, vegetables, and cheeses, as well as wine.
