My wife and I enjoyed our holiday in Copenhagen, as the creative districts are particularly impressive. The city is very clean and you feel safe. In addition, we could easily get everywhere with our rented bikes, as Copenhagen is very bike-friendly. My wife and I ate a lot of Nordic cuisine, including fish. Next time, I don't think I would hire a car at all, as public transport in the city is very well developed.

Highligts

I'm always a fan of action and adventure, which is why I particularly liked the Tivoli amusement park. It simply impresses with its many different rollercoasters. I also thought the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek art museum was cool, with its fascinating collection of ancient Greek and Roman artefacts.

Hidden gems

The alternative neighbourhood of Christiana offers a unique and creative atmosphere filled with truly fascinating street art

Destination recommendation

I would say because there is an interesting mixture of modern city and old traditional building structures. Especially interesting for history buffs.

Pros

Safety and cleanliness

Innovative trendy neighbourhood

Cons

High volume of tourists

Relatively high costs

I had a wonderful time in Copenhagen. The highlight for me was Rosenborg Palace, a beautiful building with a lot of character. I was also able to admire a great exhibition at the Design Museum. In general, I can say that Copenhagen has many beautiful sights and some inviting restaurants. I can recommend a stay or holiday here.

Highligts

Rosenborg Castle is an impressive building.

Visiting the Design Museum was a marvellous experience.

Overall a solid travelling experience. Bike friendly, very well connected with public transport, diverse selection of restaurants and cafés. Lots of free WLAN. The supermarkets discount almost everything from 8pm. So you can also save a few euros. I would avoid the expensive tourist resorts.

Highligts

I was in Sydhavn, a super hip neighbourhood with lots of small cafés. We also went to Tivoli and Nørrebro. Very chic, but both crowded and quite overpriced. Before the airport, the penultimate stop on the metro is a beautiful beach with a view of Malmö (Sweden)

Hidden gems

The beach, Amager Strand. Beautiful view of Sweden and the Øresund Bridge. Sydhavn with its lovely little cafés.

Destination recommendation

For a relaxed city trip, ideally in summer - explore by bike.

Pros

Bicycle friendly

Very open

Cons

Comparatively expensive (especially in the tourist regions)

Hectic in the city centre

Copenhagen is an architecturally exciting city. There are modern neighbourhoods like Sydhavn, but they also feature old bridges and buildings that reminded me of Amsterdam. The old town is known for its colourful houses on the harbour promenade, which remind me more of Norway. And the free city of Christiana is as alternative as Berlin-Kreuzberg! At the same time, there are plenty of opportunities to get into the water, be it on the beach by the sea or in the urban bathing bays by the canal. We also visited many gardens and green spaces. There are so many facets to Copenhagen! The best way to get around is by bike, which you can hire for a reasonably fair price from dedicated bike hire companies. This is the quickest way to get around the city and also to get to the sea. The prices for food are exorbitant. That's why we made use of the breakfast in our hostel and the small kitchen on offer for our evening meal - we bought food in supermarkets. This kept our holiday affordable. Next time, we would research in advance when the changing of the guard at the palace takes place, as we only happened to see the end of it.

Highligts

If the water temperatures allow, it is worth swimming in the canal. There are several swimming areas for this. The beach on the Öresund is also worth a visit. A visit to the old town with its colourful houses and a trip to the Little Mermaid is an absolute must. The free city of Christiana, which is very alternative, is also interesting.

Hidden gems

The best way to get around Copenhagen is by bike. Hire is usually quite expensive, but there are dedicated bike hire centres at attractive prices. The City Hall Tower can be visited free of charge, highly recommended!

I was in Copenhagen with my girlfriend in June. The city offers something for everyone (culture, parks, urban lifestyle, cycling). The train transfer from the airport to the city is inexpensive. Once we were there, we got around on foot or with a hire bike to test out the much-praised cycling infrastructure. The burger chain "Max" offers a large vegetarian selection. It's also easy to find other places to eat!

Highligts

The highlight for me was simply strolling around the city. The old town centre with Christiansborg (where the political series Borgen is set) offers a lot to discover. You can also take a lovely stroll along the canals. And last but not least, the city offers many vegetarian culinary highlights!

Hidden gems

Check in advance on which days museums offer free admission (e.g. city museum). You can save a lot this way!

Destination recommendation

Copenhagen offers an ideal introduction to the Scandinavian way of life.

Pros

Big city with lots of greenery and cycling infrastructure

Communication in English without problems

Cons

higher prices compared to Western Europe
