Winter ski breaks : Bansko holiday rentals
If you are looking for somewhere a little different for your next winter ski-break, look no further than Bansko, Bulgaria. Although one of the most popular ski resorts in Bulgaria, Bansko is relatively unknown to Western Europe and offers an affordable and memorable winter break.
The town of Bansko is located in the south west of the country at the foot of the Pirin Mountains and offers a long winter season, running from December to May. Staying in Bansko holiday rentals not only provides beautiful views, but access to the 75km of ski runs, a terrain park and off-piste area. The area is an ideal family location, featuring a ski school and plenty of gentle blue and green pistes. Bansko has previously hosted parts of the World Cup Alpine Ski Races. Despite its popularity with visitors, Bansko is still a culturally rich town. Stroll down Pirin Street, one of the town's central streets, filled with beautiful buildings, taverns, shops, ski-hire and many “mehana” restaurants – a traditional inn to enjoy local delicacies - whilst also offering a range of bars. The town is situated just 5km from the village of Banya, in which lies over 20 thermal mineral springs and a spa to relax after a day on the mountain.
Renting Bansko accommodation allows you to explore the surrounding Bulgarian landscape. Surrounded by various small towns, visit the town of Razlog; larger than Bansko, this town is surrounded by the Pirin Mountains and continues to embrace the rich Bulgarian cultural traditions – the New Years celebrations are particularly popular. Bansko is situated approximately 2 hours by car to the capital city, Sofia.
