There are two holiday parks in this humble destination and both are full of activities for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.The first holiday park on offer is in Wallonia, located near the lakes of l’Eau d’Heure in the water paradise area of Belgium. The other lies directly between the Sambre and the Meuse. Characterized by low woodland mountains, the forests of Ardennes are filled with wild boar, deer and birds of every kind and stretch out to France, giving the lovely Champagne-Ardenne region its name and allowing for easy excursions over the border. One suggestion is Lille in Nord-Pas-de-Calais, if you enjoy city trips as well.
The Ardennes were believed to be impassable by generals who tried to go through it throughout history due to their density, so much so that the French left this region unguarded, allowing the Germans to invade unopposed in the Second World War. Later in the war Bastogne on the Belgium side of the Ardennes was the site of one of the key German offensives which was thwarted by American Forces positioned there. This was a decisive moment in the push by the allies towards Germany and there is an excellent museum at Bastogne on the battle, which narrates the story from the perspectives of participants on each side. The Ardennes are a beautiful region to visit and make a great choice of destination.
