We were on a school trip to Salzburg and stayed at the Mozart Hostel. The absolute highlight was the factory tour at the Palfinger company, which produces lifting cranes for lorries and provides insights into the production process, starting with the raw parts. There is also an adventure world there, which is particularly exciting for children. The restaurants were also very good, we got takeaway pizza at Pizzeria Lievitamente, but there is also a small area with seating. The pizzas are highly recommended!

Highligts

When travelling to Salzburg, the surrounding area is just as interesting as the city itself. For example, we went on a factory tour at Palfinger, but you can also visit the Stigl brewery.

Hidden gems

Factory tour at Palfinger is an absolute highlight

Destination recommendation

Salzburg is a cultural centre with a great backdrop

Pros

Picturesque old town

Cons

I am really impressed by Salzburg. I'm particularly impressed by the historic old town, which looks very elegant. From there you have an excellent view of the palace. Every destination is easy to reach by public transport. Salzburg simply offers everything your heart desires!

Highligts

My favourite is Salzburg's old town. You have a great view of the castle. In combination with the Salzach, it looks very impressive. There are good bus connections.

Hidden gems

It is very easy to get to your destination by public bus. Some businesses only accept cash.

Destination recommendation

Impressive combination of historic, elegant old town and Austrian culture.

Pros

Old Town

Good bus connections

Cons

Gives expensive seats

We were in Salzburg over the weekend to go rafting on the Salzach. It was extremely cold (water temperature 8 degrees), but the scenery made up for everything! We also strolled through the Getreidegasse. It was expensive, but the products were really great (insider tip: chocolate coffee beans). It was easy to park in one of the many multi-storey car parks, but the traffic was really bad. We also paid a visit to Hellbrunn Zoo, which is highly recommended. We stayed at the Ramada Hotel Salzburg City, from where you can easily walk into the city centre (including to the cathedral).

Highligts

Mozart's birthplace. The Hohensalzburg Fortress. The (expensive) Getreidegasse. The landscape!

Hidden gems

Rafting on the Salzach is highly recommended! And I can also recommend a visit to the Getreidegasse.

Destination recommendation

I would recommend Salzburg as a holiday destination, but without children, as there are simply too many sights that don't interest children.

Pros

Super great city centre

Many sights

Cons

Very expensive

Heavy traffic

The whole trip was great. The sights are more than worth a look. There are great restaurants and interesting attractions. My personal highlight was the Hohensalzburg Fortress with a great view of the city. The best restaurant in my opinion was the Stieglkeller, which was very delicious. The public transport connections are very good, you can get to your destination very easily and quickly. I would definitely stay longer on my next trip, as there are many more great things to experience. The only thing I would avoid next time is booking spontaneously, as this is often complicated due to the high popularity.

Highligts

The visit to Hohensalzburg Fortress was a great experience. Mozart's birthplace was also very interesting and great to see. A personal highlight for me was the Volksgarten in Salzburg.

Hidden gems

The Stieglkeller is a great insider tip for eating and drinking. It is easily accessible for everyone and very delicious to eat.

Salzburg is one of the most beautiful cities I have visited. There is so much to discover. The food is very good, the people are friendly. The city is full of charm and beauty, from the breathtaking architecture, from the magnificent baroque buildings to the picturesque streets. The historic old town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offers a wealth of cultural treasures, including the birthplace of Mozart and the mighty Hohensalzburg Fortress. The city's location on the banks of the Salzach river and surrounded by the majestic Alps makes it the ideal destination for nature lovers. In addition, the atmosphere in Salzburg is characterised by hospitality, which is reflected in the cosy cafés, lively markets and traditional festivals.

Stay in a holiday home in Mozart’s birthplace

Mozart grew up in the idyllic city of Salzburg and his urgent and sublime melodies capture the majestic atmosphere of Salzburg. These hills really are alive with the sound of music and the film's producers looked to the hills just outside the city for the inspiring vistas that give the film much of its iconic resonance. Salzburg sees visitors all year round and its world famous summer music festival and winter wonderland are major attractions for visitors from around the world.

Winter wonderland, get a taste of idyllic Austria in Salzburg

The winter makes Salzburg, with its many ski hills and mountains and cosy chalets and holiday homes, a prime location for winter sports. The lovely province has its own unique blend of top-notch winter sports grounds, scenery and hospitality, with a wealth of Salzburg's accommodation on offer. These range from cosy ski chalets and holiday homes to up-scale luxury holiday apartments in Salzburg. Serviced by both air and rail transportation, Salzburg is conveniently reached by travellers from nearby and abroad as there are regular connections to places like Linz and the German city of Munich and the high-speed rail makes train travel to and from Salzburg an attractive option, as the trains offer travellers a chance to remain close to the beautiful landscape as they make their journey to their holiday apartments in Salzburg.

Salzburg is located right next to Germany and as such, a day trip is highly recommended. Across the border, Berchtesgaden National Park in Upper Bavaria offers a beautiful conservation area where you can take in the Berchtesgaden Alps in their full glory.
