Advice from the owner
Rent and use our holiday apartment as a starting point for your excursions in and around Gernrode and the Harz mountains.
Go by the train called “Harzer Schmalspurbahn” from Gernrode up to the top of the highest
mountain Brocken (1141m). This train goes directly past the property. There is a top nearby.
The lodging lies on the eastern outskirts of Gernrode, of the Easter pond and comprises about
1300 square metres. A big sunbathing area with garden furniture and a barbecue place can be used there. Above the property there is a café with fantastic panorama.
Thus you can enjoy your vacation in a quiet environment and walk on foot to the town centre within 10 minutes.
Gernrode has got some a copy of Jesus Christ’s grave, take cuckoo clocks museum, the biggest thermometer in the world and the biggest “skat table” (for playing a popular German card game; registered in the Guiness Book of Records).
Only a few kilometres away, in Bad Suderode, there is a calcium sole medicinal swimming bath with a pool, a sauna and a wellness area. The well-know drinking cure can be carried out there, too.
Visit the castle Falkenstein and its daily show with flying raptors. You can also walk on the tracks of the emperors and kings.
Go and see the medieval town Quedlinburg which is only a few kilometres away. There is the “Finkenherd” down the castle where King Heinrich I was crowned. Opposite it there is the Lionel Feininger painting gallery which you should not miss. Then go up the steps on to the
Castle Mountain and you can explore the environment in which the abbesses lived and governed the town a long time a go. A visit of the castle museum Saint Servatii or a guided tour inside the diocese church Saint Servatii can be marvellous and spell-binding. The diocese church with the graves of Heinrich I and his wife Mathilde as well as the cathedral treasures of Quedlinburg are the absolute highlights.
There are other interesting destinations in Halberstadt and Wernigerode – the coloured towns in the Harz mountains. Halberstadt with its cathedral and unique cathedral treasures, Wernigerode with its romantic castle and the wonderful town hall are worth a visit.
Enjoy the Harz mountains with their whole beauty. With a long walk through the Bode valley
To the witches’ dance square or the horse trace you can experience the wonderful nature and on the top you will have a unique view down to the whole valley and the Harz foothills.
These mountains can also be reached easily by the cable railway and the armchair lift. Then you can relax while walking in the animal park on the witches’ dance square or seeing a performance in the “Harzer mountain theatre”.
In the monastery Michaelstein in Blankenburg you can enjoy the culinary delicacies of the Harz mountains – fresh fish from the lakes and brooks nearby. There are also famous concerts in the spring and summer.
