The gite was renovated over a two year period and is finished to a superior standard, featuring high quality fixtures & fittings plus all mod-cons in order for our guests to truly enjoy peace and luxury at the heart of Brittany. Pontivy is an historic urban centre in the centre of Brittany sitting alongside the beautiful Blavet and the Nantes Brest canal. The floral displays on the town during the season are magnificent. There is the medieval old town with its narrow, winding streets and half-timbered buildings, and the geometric Napoleonic town. The town boasts the magnificent 15th century Chateau Rohan as its centrepiece. Pontivy is home to a number of restaurants and bars. There are also numerous shops, boutiques and several small supermarkets and you can walk or cycle the 6 km directly to Pontivy from the gite via the canal towpath which is just 30 seconds walk from the front door! There are larger supermarkets on the outskirts.
The impressive Lac de Guerledan is 20 minutes drive from Kergouet. Here you can laze on the popular south facing beach, swim, canoe, walk or enjoy a meal in one of the several restaurants on the shore. Treat yourself to a voyage and enjoy a meal on board the lake cruisers as you take in the scenery. Boat owners can fish, sail or water-ski. Built to provide hydroelectric power and clean water, it interrupted the course of the Nantes-Brest canal - the lock gates are still in place under many metres of water. The partially restored Abbey de bon Repos is situated at the western end of the lake and has walks, forests a shop and a restaurant plus a very popular craft and produce market each Sunday from spring to autumn. Every year it plays host to a spectacular Son et Lumiere (Pays de Conomor) event with drama, fireworks and light-shows to take the breath away. There are many forests in central Brittany, perfect for long walks or watching the wildlife.
Centally situated in Brittany you can access the beaches of the south coast in just under an hour. Carnac is here with its famous alignments of standing stones. The more rugged and spectacular north coast is about 90 minutes drive.
Rennes is about 1 hour to the east, medieval centred Vannes is 1 hour to the south and the charming fishing port of Auray with art galleries and restaurants crowding around the harbour is also about one hour's drive.
