Holiday Homes Crete and Holiday Villas Crete

When planning your trip to Greece, the island of Crete is a whole different story – and a story you’ll want to be able to tell upon return. With limitless stretches of breathtaking mountains and cavernous ravines, all circled by one of the most sought-after coastlines on the planet, it’s no surprise that Crete has developed itself as a leader in tourism services – it’s done well here. Accommodations range from supreme, 5-star luxury villas to the humble pensions that hearken back to centuries past while offering modern day comfort.

To begin to fully grasp the natural splendor of the Minoan Island, a day trip to the Samaria Gorge National Park is in order. With extensive hiking trails offering stunning vistas at every turn, Crete provides an exquisite combination of verdant lusciousness and Mediterranean cool. You may even catch the hint of a seabreeze wafting through the ravine, as the park is positioned well toward the coast in the southeast region of the island.

Okay, you’ve waited long enough. It’s time to hit the beach. Surprisingly, despite the decades of tourism pounding the island, and the development of major coastal resorts, there are still quite a number of idyllic, secluded beaches. You’ll almost feel like the first person discovering them. Bask in the hot Mediterranean sun and feel the soft, sugary sand caress your skin. If you’re feeling energetic, splash into the aquamarine water and understand the healing refreshment of Greece. Then head home to your Crete villa to relax and maybe take a nap after all that excitement.

Of course, the coastline is not just superficial fun – humble, yet incredibly quaint and picturesque fishing villages surround the island and provide a real life glimpse into Greece’s ancient past, you can talk with the local fishermen and craftsmen, and stop into pubs to hear the ancient lore and music that stems way back into time. Buy some fresh-caught fish to fry up in your self catering holiday home for a truly memorable holiday meal experience.

It would be amiss, not to mention the glorious harbors and port cities. Chania displays several historic periods: Venetian, Ottoman and modern day Greek influence converge to create a beautiful architectural cornucopia beneath the towering White Mountains on the eastern horizon. Other major cities in Crete include Iraklion, Ayios Nikolaos, Rethymnon, the last of which is pitched even further into Crete’s “Wild West”, where you'll find lots of great Crete holiday villas and plenty to explore and see. Delve right into the Old City by day, an incredible maze of architectural splendor. Nightlife in Rethymnon is enjoyable, although real fun is found back in Chania, whose Old World charm mixes with modern sins to create a scintillating, romantic experience. Lodging in Chantia is abundant, although you are strongly advised to book your holiday home or apartment well in advance – months ahead – especially for the peak months of July and August, which are loaded with vacationers.
