An orange haze ripples through Oxford, in between the red brick buildings and the channels coursed by canoes whose travelers seek to cool off from the summer’s heat. As autumn sets in, the University begins to buzz with Britain’s brightest minds, and the electricity in the air is palpable.

An age-old tradition of academic prowess, Oxford is one of the perfect places to actually visualize academia. Every step one takes on the cobblestone streets of Oxford is graced by centuries of brilliance and majesty. A great place to start out on your trip to Oxford would be a tour of the University’s faculties spread throughout the town in the European tradition. These alone are an example of architectural wonder.

But to get to the real architectural goods, the Radcliffe Camera is an amazing place to start, as it is an example of a rotund Palladian architectural style that was prominent in England in the 18th Century. The arched entrance to the Oxford University Press introduces a beautiful building housing a press whose international importance in the publishing world cannot be underestimated. The Oxford University Museum of Natural History is a paleontologist’s dream, in addition to the beautiful building housing the collection. The Bodleian Library in Oxford is also known to be one of the oldest in Europe.

Yet despite being such a hazy, visually stimulating and historical wonderland, Oxford is far from a dried-up museum of a city. Indeed, class still convenes and there are no plans to close down. The bright students who flock here to become join the world’s best minds are no strangers to a good party, and the nightlife scene in Oxford is designed to please. Pubs, bars, nightclubs and a boisterous, filled up by a beautiful crowd of college age girls and boys make vacationing to Oxford fun. Freud over on Walton Street combines the best of three worlds – live music, a great bar and an ancient building, giving a medieval gothic feel to modern pleasures.

Being an ivy-league university town, high-brow entertainment won’t be hard to find. The Oxford Playhouse Theatre is the spot to see classical music performed by some of Britain’s best.
