Near the seaside resort of Sunny Beach, in Nesebar Museum Town, one of the oldest towns in Europe, the past comes alive. The Madara Horseman, carved into a plateau rising from a plane, resembles a petrified waterfall when observed from the east. Near the town of Kazanlak, in the Valley of Roses, a tomb was constructed for a wealthy Thracian ruler in the 4th century B.C. Another Tracian king’s tomb, the Sveshtari tomb, was built 2300 years ago close to the town of Razgrad.
